Overview
Positioning our region for a global market
Food Leaders Australia (FLA) exists to support the growth of businesses working within the food and agricultural space nation-wide to capitalise on opportunities in the global market.
Driven by the Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise, the University of Southern Queensland, regional businesses and other key stakeholders, FLA positions the Toowoomba region as a competitive food producing and value-adding area assisting Australian-based and operated businesses to be export-ready and access international markets growing their overall business capability.
In particular, there is an immense opportunity on our doorstep with the significant increase in affluence of Asia’s middle-class population, expected to rise six-fold to 3.5 billion people by 2030.
Not only will the Asian region become the world’s largest consumer of goods and services, these potential customers will also demand high quality, safe and reliable foods from trusted sources.
With a strong track-record in clean and green food production, Australia is well positioned to deliver the safe, high-quality food products that the growing Asian middle-class population demands. This creates a new and emerging market for local food producers.
As a region, we are fortunate to have a diverse range of assets and capabilities to grow food production as demand increases – including well-managed natural resources, world-class export infrastructure and an extensive variety of food and agricultural products, and businesses.
Driving collaboration
FLA drives engagement between industry and world-leading researchers to share a clear, focused vision on commercialising outcomes and improving profitability within Australia’s food, agricultural and technology businesses.
Working together with existing providers and partners nationally, to support relevant businesses, FLA identifies where support capability could be developed for all businesses in the Toowoomba region.
By collaborating together, we have the opportunity to place Australia as the pre-eminent exporter of innovative “value added” food products and ingredients.
